The Gujarat government has chosen to consider diabete’s a public health concern and is developing a multi-pronged approach to tackle the diseases fast-rising prevalence.

This includes raising awareness at the village level, providing health clinics with diabetes detection equipment, and adding a diabetes test to its statewide medical check-up program for school kids.

The 2022 data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) report published showed 14.8% women and 16.1% men had high random blood glucose (RBG).

Gujarat holds fourth place in the women’s category and fifth in the mens category for high random blood glucose (RBG). Manoj Aggarwal, the chief secretary for health and family welfare, stated that diabetes surfaced as one of the causes of various other health issues among patients during and after the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to government officials, health centers up to the primary health care (PHC) level would be provided with diabetes detection tools such as glucometers and the like. Health staff will also be educated in the usage of diabetes detection devices. In addition, a statewide awareness and education campaign will be launched to educate people about the lifestyle condition.
